Every year comes that moment when the football season is over, and our lives become a little tedious on the weekends. We don’t know what do on the days we usually enjoy a La Liga match or a Premier League game, the afternoons on Tuesdays and Wednesdays are just not the same once the UEFA Champions League is over. Well, that moment has arrived once again this year.
But fear not, football fans, for the Copa América in Chile 2015 is about to start on June 11th! Yes, you probably haven’t heard about the most important national football team tournament of South (and North) America. Well, let me say you have been missing on a lot. First of all we have Lionel Messi playing for his national team, Argentina, and that’s one good-enough reason to watch the whole thing, right? Then we have Neymar Jr, James Rodríguez, Luis Suárez, Marcelo, Jackson Martínez, Chicharito Hernández and many other wonderful south american players you see every week playing for huge teams such as Barcelona and Real Madrid.
So we are making a list of the 3 Top Teams to look out for on this edition of the Copa América. There are 3 teams no one wants to meet during the competition, and we tell you what are these teams now:
Argentina
Finalist of the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014, Argentina has the best player of all times on their team: Lionel Messi. La Pulga has one big debt to his fellow countrymen because of his bad performance against the German National Team on the World Cup Final last year. The argentinian has already said he will try his best and do everything in his power to help his teammates and return home with the American Champion trophy.
Javier Mascherano, the team’s captain and one of the most respected players at Spanish Giant FC Barcelona, has said they have a huge debt with Argentina, and they will try to repay it by winning Copa América this year, and that they should see this as a preparation for finally winning the World Cup in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia 2018.
The Argentinian National Team is always feared in every competition. They produce a high percentage of the world’s best players every year and have won the World Cup 2 times. They have claimed the Copa America Trophy a total 14 times and 1 FIFA Confederations Cup. They are a truly marvelous team, every year.
Brazil
The National Football team of Brazil is the most successful national football team in the history of football. They have won the FIFA World Cup trophy a record 5 times, and are no strangers to winning Copa America either with 33 titles as American Champions and 8 Confederations Cup trophies. The history of national teams will forever talk about Brazil as a nation widely known for their football skills and beautiful places.
Last year they made fools of themselves by losing 1-7 at the World Cup Semifinals they were hosting. The worst defeat ever for the Brazilian National Team, at home, in front of their crowd. After the horrible elimination on last year’s World Cup, Brazil has the urgent need to give a good fight on this year’s Copa América, and take the trophy home if they can, to at least make peace with Brazilian fans.
The new project for the National Team has football legend Dunga as manager, and football star Neymar Jr alongside Marcelo, David Luiz, Hulk, Danilo and Thiago Silva to back their claim at the title. We are confident Brazil will make it at least to the Quarter Finals if nothing crazy happens before they get there.
Colombia
This year we have a new favourite: Colombia. This National Team has had its good years and bad years, but let me tell you something: this might just be the best Colombian football team in the history of Colombian football. They have so many stars playing in the best teams of the world right now, that we wonder why are they not World Champions. Well, turns out they met Brazil playing at home last year for the World Cup Quarter Finals and that turned out to be a lot of pressure for the Colombians.
The Colombian National Team has won only three titles in their history, and these are the 2001 Copa America and two golden medals at the olympics (1946, 2006). But don’t be fooled by the lack of titles; the Colombian team has always been feared in South America, and this year, they have an actual shot at taking the trophy back to Colombia without breaking a sweat.
The biggest name on the list has to be James Rodríguez. This kid was the golden boot award winner at last year’s FIFA World Cup and scored the goal of the tournament. He also plays for Spanish Giants Real Madrid. The other names on the list have impressive careers too, we are talking about Manchester United’s Radamel Falcao, Porto’s Jackson Martínez, Carlos Bacca, Cuadrado and many other huge players that make a living striking goals all over the globe.
That was our Top 3 list of Favourite teams to win Copa América, although, the odds say Argentina has the better chances, and will probably make it to the Final. Even so, we’ll have to wait and see as the best national teams in South America take the pitch to fight for a chance of being the continent’s best national team.
